Avanzar 9/1/2018

Dyna-Mido vs Crazy J, AVANZAR 9/1/2018

AVANZAR baby. The set up for this show was just a flimsy little mat in a small community center. They have two ladders on the opposite corners to allow for some flying moves and shenanigans, like the old JWA Tokai or JWA Kansai. And this was serious pro wrestling, and I love all serious pro wrestling that has no ring. This was mostly straight forward pro wrestling with Mido punishing Crazy J with his stiff elbows and headbutts. Mido looks tough as nails and at one point he goes for a splash off the ladder with J moving and Mido just splatting on that tin mat, it’s crazy. Crazy J is mostly about fun jumping one legged dropkicks that are kinda cool, and he also brings both the ladders in to deal punishment so that’s a nice unpredictability factor. He also had a nice STO. Simple match built around elbows and headbutts and lariats that all look hard and I enjoyed it.

Hideki Shioda vs. Kaito Sero

Hey look its Hideki Shioda. I mostly know him from FU*CK. This was probably the best I’ve ever seen Hideki Shioda look as it was a shockingly good match. Shioda was punishing his opponent here with slaps and kicks that looked genuinely vicious, and dominating him on the ground. Sero was able to look in a really cool modified spinning figure 4, but Shioda is able to reverse another leglock because he’s the veteran (I think). The one truly Shioda-ish moment was when he attempted some kind of leg scissor take down that came out warped. He does muck about a bit much with the leglocks but the finish is pretty fun. I actually wanted to see more of Shioda coming out of this, and his opponent also looked pretty cool.

Koji Sudo vs Great Salaryman

Koji Sudo is another guy I know from FU*CK. And well I guess this is more like that because the Great Salaryman is a full on middle aged Japanese businessman complete with suit and tie. The Salaryman actually fights with dropkicks and suplexes and such. He has Great Salarywoman with him, who keeps hitting Sudo with a paddle and a briefcase. For some reason Great Salarywoman was hitting him insanely hard. This was mostly Sudo taking comical amounts of abuse including the old bowling ball to the crotch. At one point Sudo bridges out of a pin like a joshi wrestler. Sudo wins it with an insanely sick double stomp off the ladder. This was one of those surreal spectacles that you can watch when you’re in the mood for that kind of bullshit, I would rate it as above average just for seeing Great Salarywoman beating on Sudo like that, and the finish.

Super Guapo MEX vs A-Z

A serious main event! Very straightforward action here with this guy Super Guapo MEX being all about llaves and tying up his opponent, and A-Z kicking him really hard. Both guys display solid skills, with MEXs llaves and rollups being cool and A-Zs kicks looking actually vicious. There are a few fun moments such as A-Zs big enzuigiri or the crazy cut-throat complete shot that Super Guapo did. Ladder ends up coming into play and we get a bunch of deadlift suplexes that just look brutal on that mat. This kind of stuff really makes you think the best pro wrestling happens on a flimsy mat in a small community center room in front of 30 people. Totally a blast to watch, and I do wish a more serious mat pro wrestling group was around right now that delivered more stuff like this on a regular basis because the potential is endless.

Exploring... Dyna-Mido

Dyna-Mido vs A-Z, Shin Osaka Pro Wrestling(?) 2/16/2020

Dyna-Mido is a fascinating wrestler. Apparently, he’s a veteran of the JWA Kansai days, so he is a stalwart of serious no ring pro wrestling. When you search his name on YouTube, you get all kind of wonderous results. Matches in Fu*ck, battles against grapplers and MMA fighters, fighting in parking lots with no ring. And this was the no-ring shootstyle action that your brain craves. I think I’ve only seen A-Z in FU*CK one or two times, and his Cagematch profile reveals that he’s been creeping around the seediest places ranging from EXIT to KOBE Meriken and other micro indies. Apparently he belongs to something called AVANZAR which mainly seems to specialize in no-ring wrestling so A-Z has quite the pedigree. But A-Z is a serious shooter who kicks really hard. These two level some hellish strikes against each other here. It’s a totally serious match and it rules. A-Zs kicks are hard and he landed this one enzuigiri to Midos skull that was horrific. Mido is as solid as a brick and he looks tough as hell here absorbing punishing kicks and firing back with brutal headbutts and elbows of his own. There is some fun groundwork, too. The audience for this couldn’t be more than 20 people and it’s just filmed with a single overhead cam, yet these two went out here and tried to crush each other. This is the kind of stuff that embodies pro wrestling.

Dyna-Mido vs Yuko Miyamoto, B168 5/30/2021

This takes place on a parking lot, in the blazing sun, on some mats that are flimsily held together by a plastic wrapping. It’s a deathmatch too and they got barbedwire and a ladder and other things. There are a bunch of ladies in the audience for this too, mostly with hats or towels on their head because of the sun burning and it’s during the height of COVID. It’s insane to think the Japanese authority allowed this to happen at the time. They do some snappy opening chain wrestling before Miyamoto grabs a barbedwire bat and bangs it into Midos shin to escape a front headlock. Miyamoto is clever enough to do the Sakuraba dragging spin to Mido on the pavement which I assume is scorching hot. It soon turns into a surreal gritty trenchfight with Mido bleeding in this parking plot. Miyamoto looks really sharp here, making the general deathmatch affair more fun with his explosive kicks and athleticism, and Mido is just pure guts. Miyamoto wraps barbedwire around Midos had and snapmares him across the mat in an incredibly nasty spot that I don’t recall seeing before. There’s Miyamotos cool spin kicks, Mido has a really nice Northern Lights Suplex.. at one point Mido gets hit by a truck. Mido ends up taking a press slam off the ladder and bounces really hard on those flimsy mats. There are gritty no hands headbutts and a few cool moments that caught me unexpectedly. This match isn’t anything intelligent, it’s just two crazy guys fighting and bleeding grittily in a parking lot and occasionally smashing a barrel or barbedwire board into the other. Truck getting involved added to the craziness too. Another piece of immensely sick and enjoyable raw pro wrestling.

Dyna-Mido vs Jun Masaoka, B168 12/12/2015

This also on just a mat held in a bright but small Japanese multi purpose hall. Description says this show was held without prior announcement so yeah they work their butts off here. Masaoka is a bouncy lithe junior wrestler and his bouncing around makes this pretty fun. More fast paced action than you expect from such a match and Mido is as solid and reliable as you need a thickly built shaven headed ass kicker to be. He made sure to really punish Masaoka slamming him on the tin mat, and the contrast between Masaokas twisty rollups and high jumping dropkicks and Midos lariats and slams makes this a really fun match.

Dyna-Mido vs Maori Kawashima, Steak Pro Wrestling 10/16/2021

This is held in a small BJJ gym room and it looks like they just glued some foam mats together to make a ring. I am fascinated with this. Kawashima has been a bit of an indy hotness with his cool look, but Mido just eats him up here. Mido toys with Kawashima on the mat in fun ways and when Kawashima tries to get into a strike contest Midos elbows are just way too hard for him. Both guys try to go for sneaky rollups but the time limit runs out after like 5 minutes. Probably the most grappling I’ve seen Mido do and it was pretty fun, it does make me want to see him against someone who can provide a bit more of a challenge.

Dyna-Mido & Daisuke Masaoka vs Jun Kasai & Kamui, Steak Pro Wrestling 10/16/2021

Oh, they had another match that day, so that’s why the previous match went short. This is not as gritty and insane as the Miyamoto match, but it’s still quite fun Mido plays the crazy old coot here, and he does get his head skewered. It was even kinda smart since Mido got pinned early and after the restart they kept teasing another pin on him. Masaoka and Kamui are pretty fun hitting their flying headscissors stuff in this no ring environment. And Kasai is good as he always is, does this guy simply have infinite HP? Gritty finish where Mido takes a nasty double arm facebuster on his head with the skewers in.

K-WEST 10/29/2010

Rare show from a mini promotion that was vaguely associated with K-Dojo! They have some cool dudes like Tadanobu Fujisawa and Masao Ando.

Takuya Iijima vs. Daisuke Masaoka

Solid undercard match. Iijima is a very fun big boy who throws cool kicks and knee drops that land with full bodyweight. He also had a cool Hashimoto-esque leg sweep that was unexpected. Masaoka does the bare minimum here working Iijimas leg and winning with a basic leglock in somewhat lazy fashion. Wouldn‘t mind to see more of Iijima.

SATOSHI vs. Southern Cross

Two interesting looking guys. Cross has a stark light blue outfit and mask, while SATOSHI looks like a dorky version of TAKA Michinoku. They tried to have a mat based contest. It was pretty basic but alright. SATOSHI had two nice suplexes at the end. Not much else to write home about.

Tadanobu Fujisawa & Dyna Mido vs. Masao Ando & Yuji Yoshida

Damn, I wasn‘t ready to see Masao Ando super buff and chiselled here. I thought that guy always had the tubby physique but he looked like a specimen here. His wrestling was very good, too. Early goings here were really good, reminded me a bit of a 90s NJPW Jr match. Mostly basic ground based stuff executed in really tight and interesting ways. Everybody was working super stiff, too, especially Andos kick that almost seemed to burst a guys chest. Fujisawa was also very good here as he knows how to be a violent prick. Dyna Mido was good early but kind of flubbed his brief run of offense during the second half. Unfortunately they don‘t deliver the Ando vs Fujisawa showdown that was the most promising match up in here. Nice stuff otherwise, love getting to check out guys like Ando and Fujisawa.

E-Cosmos: Kansai vs. Style-E 2/21/2010

Yosuke Takii & Kabuki Kid vs. Yutaka & Dyna-Mido

Fun indy opener. Takii is always cool to see and he really palmed and kicked the hell out of Dyna-Mido. Dyna was fun as a plucky young guy with a simple moveset, and Yutaka had a cool hot tag busting out a big headscissor and nasty face dropkick. Kabuki Kid wasn’t much at all but didn’t drag things down. This was short enough and had a good pace to leave you with just enough before you got tired.

Yuki Tanaka vs. Kyosuke Sasaki

Sasaki was doing a face painted gimmick with one glove on his hand and part of a heel faction. A cool match in theory as both these guys have kickpads and aren’t afraid to hit hard, but it was pretty short and to add to that the match had a run in, even though Tanaka quickly unmasked the guy and threw him out. It felt like wasted potential.

Masato Shibata vs. Shigehiro Irie

Young Irie is so low on the totem pole he gets almost squashed Shibata. This had some good chunky boys forearming each other hard and crashing into each other with their blubber stuff and Shibata has some nice gnarly offense, stiff Vader Hammers and huge suplex that Irie bumps big for, but I wanted a bit more. As a 6 minute big boy sprint it was pretty good though.

Kazuhiro Tamura & Masashi Takeda vs. Masanori Ishikura & Takaku Fuke

This was more like it. A slick shooty indy tag with plenty of fun smooth mat scrambles. It’s too bad we don’t see Ishikura much because the guy is really good and can hang with a pair of Tamura trainees on the mat no problem. I’m usually down on Fuke but he had his working boots on and let his opponents look really good. Takeda looked really good here, it’s regrettable he didn’t do clean wrestling more often because his knee strikes and suplexes are fantastic. The ending with Ishikura and Tamura wailing away at each other with Ishikura clocking Tamura with nasty headbutts was hard as all hell. Really enjoyable fast paced match, absolutely worth watching.

Tadanobu Fujisawa & Shoichi Uchida vs. Choun Shiryu & Ken Ohka

This had a lot of zany heel stuff and run ins from heel faction on Shiryu/Ohkas side. It was effective but it prevented much wrestling from happening. Heel antics aside Shiryu was awesome here as usual and probably salvaged the match with his brilliant kicks. The guy is just too cool flying into the scene to Kung Fu kick people in the face and hit odd 619s. His brief exchange with Uchida was really cool and I bet a 7 minute match between the two would be absolutely dynamite. Uchida brings some cool touches, I really liked his Oklahoma Stampede where he cleared the other guy off the apron, his big emerald fusion and dropkick to the back of the head etc. I was hoping to see Fujisawa kick some ass but he barely got to do anything although he did hit his awesome looking knee at one point. Ohka was pretty much a big nothing aside from his kooky getup. It was still a good match with Uchida and Shiryu being absolutely worth seeing.

Bukotu 9/25/2016

Kaoru Nemoto vs. Takeshi Michibata

For a low level regional indy opening match, this was pretty fun. Nemoto is this cool thickly built old dude with a suck mullet and cool skull trunks design, who wrestles like kind of a tribute to a Hiro Saito being a troll with a nice backdrop suplex. I enjoy that kind of heel act and he did a decent job punishing Michibata who is as generic an indy junior as they come.

Michio Kageyama vs. KB

Kageyama is the next nice surprise on this show. He looks like a mini-Gannosuke but was really good working over his opponents arm here and picking him apart with kicks. KB looked quite pathetic and untrained, like a middle aged businessman randomly decided to get in the ring and got booked by paying the ring rent, but his offense was restricted to a minimum. I want to see more of this Kageyama guy.

Toru Sugiura & Dyna-Mido & AK vs. Hideaki Sumi & Takeshi Irei & Naoki Ito

This was also pretty good for a midcard 6 man tag. The trio around Dyna-Mido did a good job playing enforcers and putting a beatdown on young Naoki Ito, who did a decent fired up black trunks youngster performance. I especially enjoyed Sugiura just working people over with kicks. Sumi is this grouchy karateka who doesn't pull his strikes at all and he's great. He hit this cartwheel kick to a guys face and it was awe-inspiring. Really want to see more of that guy. Irei is a thickly built guy with nice suplexes who apparently came from Apache Pro. I remember absolutely nothing about AK but when your name is "AK" I guess you just set up not to be memorable.

Yuji Yoshida vs. Masao Ando

This was a nice surprise. Two tubby guys with kickpads hitting each other hard and basically doing a sleazy WAR match. No stupid back and forth strike exchanges, they just battered each other with kicks and elbows. I wonder about Andos background because he shows up consistently on sleaze undercards and is a cool fatboy shooter. I've never heard of this Yoshida but he's old, very lumpy and takes and gives punishment well. There was a gnarly moment where Ando lifted up Yoshida for a waterwheel throw and just dumped him on his head. Too bad Yoshida just did a shitty looking single leg takedown to comeback. The finish was fun though with Ando getting dumped with some big suplexes, way bigger bumps than you'd expect from a local show in front of 50 people. Not polished but it was fun.

Kenji Fukimoto vs. SATOSHI

Fukimoto is a Kurisu trainee who can be a really great sleaze brawler, but he was paired with a guy who seemed green and brought absolutely nothing to the table. Fukimoto just carefully strung this dude through the match. A waste of Fukimoto, but at least he wore some really cool facepaint.

Tadanobu Fujisawa / Daisuke Masaoka vs. YU-ICHI / KENJI

Fujisawa looked damn good here. Apparently he's another Kurisu trainee and he gave a 100% Kurisu performance. He was punching and kicking people flush in the face and cracking them with grueling headbutts and chairshots. He displayed good timing and selling too, so he wasn't just a crowbar. Brawling around the ring was actually good and closer to IWRG than the lazy shit you usually get on Japanese indy shows. The other people in the match weren't bad, but nothing to write home about either. But the match had a structure where the veteran team of Fujisawa and Masaoka were isolating their opponents and killing them, and I was into that. I lost a bit interest with the trained monkey stuff of Yu-ichi and KENJI, but fortunately Fujisawa was there to run in and tag people with Takaiwa lariats. The finish was great as Fujisawa just kicked the guy in the face hard. No theatrics or setup, just kicked him in the face and pinned him. As far as I'm concerned Fujisawa is another candidate for the list of must see Japanese sleazeballs, but his tape history is extremely limited.
